Wonderful

I can tell this is going to be a good day...
I woke up at about 8 in the morning and got ready to drive the hour and a half back home to spend the day with my family. Everything was going well, I eventually got all my things together and headed to the car. First problem: My air wouldn't work. I live in the south, it is hot as hell, and all my AC shoots out is hot air. Great.
I didn't let this bother me, just put down my windows and drove. I had a half a tank of gas and figured that would be enough, even though my car is a piece of shit.
About ten to fifteen minutes in my drive I realize I'm already almost down to a quarter of a tank. My RPM is at 6. I know close to nothing about cars but I do know that the RPM meter thing is not supposed to be close to the red. My gas is declining drastically and I'm no where near half way to home. And on top of that, I'm on this narrow highway with no where to pull over and no exits near by.
Just to let you know, I usually drive 90 on the highway, but this time 65 was my maximum or the RPM thing was going into 7 and that can't be good. My car is making this horribly loud noise that I know isn't good. I'm holding up cars behind me because this is only a two lane road. And don't forget, I'm sitting in a fucking oven.
Finally there's an exit. I get off in the middle of no where, find a gas station, and call my mom. She's scared because she's always worried about my shitty car and she gets nervous easily and exaggerates everything. So she's over there telling me about taking it to the shop immediately and renting a car and who knows what.
I get gas because I'm nearly out, get directions to go home without using the highway, and get back into my oven. Of course, my windows are down so I don't die, and it just so happens to be the start of love bug season. Those little shits were EVERYWHERE!
On my way home I had a pretty emotional moment, very rare for me. I was thinking about how Mother's Day was coming up and how I haven't been the best daughter lately even though I love my mom very much, I just have trouble showing affection so she might now know it. That and since she calls everyday, and usually at the worst times, I sometimes come off as rude on the phone and I don't mean it. But whatever guess I'll just buy her something nice on Sunday.
So I'm done with my rant, now I can continue on to my excitement! Tomorrow, I go to Winghouse to (hopefully) officially secure my job. I know I don't have much to write about now, but soon I'll probably have some interesting waitressing stories to share. How exciting...

By the way, I saw Star Trek yesterday and I usually hate that shit but that was pretty damn good!

We Are Young, But We Have Heart

I've got an extremely religious and conservative family, and I mean really conservative. And yet, I'm the complete opposite.
Tomorrow I'm going home to get some stuff my mom has that I may need on Saturday when I go fill out the paperwork for Winghouse. But to my mother, I am getting these items because I'm getting a small office job at school. Ha..
I needed something where my mom couldn't call or visit me if she came down here, I figure that would work for a while.
I do feel horrible though, I love my mom very much and wish I could share this with her, because I am very excited about it, but I know she wouldn't like it and I don't want to upset her. If she were raised in the same environment as I, I know she would have been just like me, because she has an outgoing personality and she used to be one of those girls that dresses up all the time and does her hair and takes pictures, yet she was raised overseas so she couldn't even consider any job like mine.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I have to hide my job from my mother, who I am really close with. Since I just turned 18, I'm used to needing her permission for everything so it's hard for me to imagine doing this without her knowing. So what are my chances? Will it be easy to keep my job hidden from her for however long I'll have it?

My Director's Chair, Please?

I'm studying film, in hopes of becoming the next big hollywood movie director!
Just kidding. But seriously, I love writing and film. I'm very interested in directing, screenwriting, editing, and working with the camera. Acting seems really fun as well, but thats not my dream.
As a writer, I've got a lot to show my work. But with every other aspect of film, I've got a short resume. I've had two minor positions on student short films, two 12 hour days each. It was great, I loved it, and can't wait to do more!
Well, I had two positions lined up, one as an assistant, and the other as a script supervisor on a feature film! Biggest position to date, and I was very excited. Unfortunately, they would be six 12 hour days, and it would interfere with the first days of my summer classes. That, I was planning on risking. But now that I've got this job, I guess there would be no time for the shoot.
It sucks.
But then again, I've been wanting a job for the past 8 months, and need the money. I have rent to pay, a car to keep up, and a LOT on my wish list.
So let's hope I'll be a good Winghouse girl!

The Ugly Waitress

The summer before I moved for college, I was having a conversation with my cousin, who at the time lived in the city I was relocating to. We were discussing job options for me, because I definitely needed to work through college. I expressed my interest in a waitress position. His response: "[CITY NAME] has some high standards..."
Thanks.
Well, it's been eight months now and I'm long overdue for a job. I've been looking around, but NO ONE is hiring. I've got a friend who's been out applying every day for about a month. No call backs.
I guess I found the problem, he's a guy.
I went in to Winghouse today with an application. With high heels, short shorts, and all the cleavage I could come up with, I walked in to the store with the application in hand. Two minutes later, I walked out with a job.
Thank you. Thank you.
